Man found dead inside burning car likely a suicide

The preliminary investigation into the death of an unidentified 21-year-old man found inside a burning vehicle in the Fairlawn Estates in Howell Township on Nov. 11, 2021, points to a likely suicide.

Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene to assist the Howell Area Fire Authority with the vehicle fire. After firefighters put out the fire, they located the body of a 21-year-old male inside. Authorities believe the deceased lived in Howell.

The body was transported by the Medical Examiner’s Office to Michigan Medicine in Ann Arbor, where an autopsy will be performed.

The investigation continues under the command of the Detective Bureau of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office. The name of the deceased is being withheld pending positive identification.
