At about 2:23 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, a deputy with the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office on patrol near Grand River Avenue and Nicholson Road in Handy Township saw a man who was not wearing his seat belt while driving a red Chevy Silverado at a high rate of speed. When the deputy attempted to pull him over, the driver instead fled, leading deputies on a pursuit through Webberville  and Dansville with speeds reaching near 100 mph.

The driver lost control while navigating a curve on Dexter Trail near South Williamston Road, which resulted in the vehicle crashing. The driver — identified as a 50-year-old Perry man — was taken into custody without incident. As a result of the crash, the driver suffered minor injuries and was treated at Sparrow Hospital for his injuries.

The driver, who had an outstanding for driving on a suspended license out of the Livingston County 53rd District Court, was arrested and lodged at the Livingston County Jail.  Charges will be sought through the Livingston County Prosecutor’s Office for driving on a suspended license, fleeing and eluding, and carrying a concealed weapon.

Deputies were assisted by the Ingham County Sheriff’s Office, The Stockbridge Police Department, the Michigan State Police, Corrigan Towing, and Livingston County Central Dispatch.
