Man charged in throwing of Molotov cocktails at Brighton Township home

A 25-year-old Mount Pleasant man was arraigned Monday, Dec. 1, on multiple charges in connection with an incident in which multiple Molotov cocktails were thrown at a home on Burson Drive in Brighton Township.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded to reports of multiple Molotov cocktails being thrown at the home at about 9:30 p.m. Friday, Nov. 28, igniting fires in the residential neighborhood. Responding deputies discovered multiple incendiary devices in the roadway, and fire damage to a property. Alert neighbors quickly extinguished the flames, preventing a catastrophic outcome.

Deputies identified 25-year-old Alex Buley-Neumar of Mount Pleasant as the suspect. The investigation revealed the attack was connected to an ongoing stalking and harassment case involving a juvenile victim over social media platforms.

Working collaboratively throughout the night and into the following day, Livingston County Sheriff’s Office patrol deputies, detectives, and Mount Pleasant Police Department officers coordinated efforts to locate and apprehend Buley-Neumar. He was taken into custody without incident at approximately 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 29,by Mount Pleasant police and transported to the Livingston County Jail.

Buley-Neumar was arraigned on Monday, Dec. 1, in the 53rd District Court on the following charges:

Count 1: Manufacturer / Possess Molotov Cocktail causing damage – 20-year felony
Count 2: Stalking a minor – aggravated – 10-year felony
Count 3: Using a computer to commit a crime – 10-year felony
Count 4: Accosting a child for immoral purposes – 4-year felony

Buley-Neumar remains jailed at the Livingston County Jail with a $1 million cash / surety bond.
