Join members of Brighton Michigan Garden Club to make a classic and long-lasting holiday centerpiece. Brighton Michigan Garden Club will provide all components for the beautiful arrangements: fresh greens, container and accents. All participants have to bring is pruning shears. Attendees will assemble the centerpieces at the event with the assistance of garden club members and can take their finished centerpieces home with them.
The workshop will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 6, or 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 7, at the Brighton Community Center, 555 Brighton St. in Brighton. The cost is $40. Pre-registration is required; register at https://www.brightonmichigangardenclub.org/.
Besides assembling a holiday centerpiece, attendees will also enjoy holiday music and refreshments, as well as a decorated backdrop for photos.
“The whole atmosphere is so fun and festive,” said event co-chair Cheryl Yelen.
Attendees may also choose to purchase raffle tickets for valuable gift baskets.
This is the second year the group has hosted a centerpiece-making workshop for the public, and they plan to make it an annual event.
“We hope people will make it one of their holiday traditions,” Yelen said.
The holiday centerpiece workshop is a fundraiser for the group. The money raised will go toward caring for the seven public gardens they maintain in the area, scholarships for Brighton High School seniors, grants for Brighton elementary school environmental projects and garden therapy at local assisted living facilities.
“This brings together so many things that are important to the members of our club,” she said. “It combines our love of nature and appreciation of beauty, and also helps us connect with our local community.”
Seating is limited. Yelen hopes people will sign up soon so they can be sure to participate.
“These centerpieces are so elegant and beautiful,” she said, “and they’re not difficult to put together once you have all the components. This is a great way to kick off the holiday season.”
