A 40-year-old Hartland man driving an electric bicycle is dead after being struck by multiple vehicles on Highland Road/M-59 in Hartland.

According to the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the Hartland man, traveling east in the westbound turn lane of Highland Road at about 10 p.m. Sunday, was thrown from his bicycle after a Chevrolet Silverado exiting the KFC turned west onto Highland Road and hit him.

The Hartland man was then struck by one or two other vehicles as he lay in the roadway. He was pronounced dead at the scene. The roadway was closed for approximately three hours for the investigation.

The Holly man driving the Silverado, who was wearing a seatbelt, was not injured. The Hartland man on the electric bicycle was not wearing a helmet. Alcohol may be a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau. Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS and the Hartland Area Fire Department.
