At least one person is eyeing the judicial seat of Livingston County Circuit Court Judge Suzanne Geddis, who can’t run again because of her age.

Attorney Kristina Lyke made her desire to run known in a Facebook post in which she asked for petition signatures to get her a spot on the ballot.

The open judgeship will certainly draw a lot of interest from potential candidates.

“Many of you who know me understand that I have wanted to run for judge for about 10 years,” Lyke said. “With 20 years of Circuit Court experience and understanding how imperative it is to have a judge who will abide by our State and U.S. Constitution.”

Lyke, who works as an attorney at Lyke Law in East Lansing, is a Pinckney native who currently lives in Fowlerville. She made history in Pinckney when, at 20, she became the first woman and youngest person ever to serve on the Pinckney Board of Trustees.

Lyke also ran unsuccessfully in the Republican primary for the 8th District Congressional seat in 2020, and in the 2024 Republican primary for the 50th state House District seat.

The Michigan Constitution prohibits anyone 70 or older from being appointed or elected to a judicial position. Geddis was the first woman elected to the 53rd District Court in 2004. After 14 years on the District Court bench, Geddis became the first woman to be elected to Livingston County’s 44th Circuit Court.
