Perhaps more evidence of the chaos of the Livingston County GOP under the reign of former chair Jennifer Smith, the party missed the filing deadline for its 2024 Annual Campaign Statement with the State of Michigan. The statement was due by 5 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 31.

Smith resigned her position effective Feb. 1 after the internal communications of fellow party members calling for her resignation were leaked to The Livingston Post.
The Livingston County Democratic Executive Committee, on the other hand, got its annual statement filed in time.
The missed deadline for the Republicans comes at a time when there is no chair or vice-chair. A special meeting has been set for tonight to select a new chair.

Rob Rodriguez-Pelizzari, who is in the running to serve as the local GOP’s chair, said whoever is elected to replace Smith will have to address the campaign finance report immediately.
“Since the filing of the campaign finance report was due while Ms. Smith was still Chair, I cannot answer why she did not oversee its timely filing,” Rodriguez-Pelizzari said. “However, upon being elected tonight, whoever the new Chair is will need to immediately address this issue, as well as any other currently unknown issues that may arise. I am aware if I am elected, it will need to be first on my agenda to accomplish.”
