Livingston County’s OG GOP starts to line up behind DeSantis

Several OG Livingston County Republicans have signed on to Ron DeSantis’ “War on Woke” as the Florida governor primes the pump for a primary challenge to former President Donald Trump.

The Livingston County Republicans enlisting in DeSantis’ “War on Woke” thus far include state Sen. Lana Theis of Brighton; Livingston County Sheriff Mike Murphy; Meghan Reckling, former chair of the Livingston County Republican Party; and former Livingston County Commissioner Mitchell Zajac of Marion Township, according to reports.

DeSantis was in Michigan on Thursday for two events: one in Midland, and one in Hillsdale.

The local OG GOP support of DeSantis comes after an extremist takeover of the Livingston County Republican Party, a changing of the guard that has put in charge a cadre of inexperienced political newbies originally triggered by mask mandates and vaccinations, and organized through social media.

It will be interesting to see how these preemptive endorsements play into the current chaotic state of Livingston County’s Republican Party politics, where the possibility exists that the OGs line up behind DeSantis, and the newbies remain loyal to Trump, but that remains to be seen.

All this political maneuvering comes at a time when Livingston Democrats have been making inroads in the county’s political scene. Only 18.75% — just 3 — of Livingston County’s 16 township’s were solidly red in the midterm vote for governor. And there are several important pockets of blue.

What 2024 will tell us is whether those changes are trend or anomaly. You can read about the changes here.
