Livingston County Health Department is hosting Ready, Set, School!, a health and safety fair for children to help families kick off the upcoming school year from 9 a.m. to noon Saturday, Aug. 2, at 2|42 Community Church, 7526 Grand River Ave. in Brighton.

Ready, Set, School! offers families a chance to connect with free services and helpful resources: “Our goal is to help prepare kids for school or daycare by improving their health and safety in a fun and educational way” said Courtney Rynkiewicz, planning lead for the event.

At Ready, Set, School!, families will have free access to immunizations for ages 0-18, that are required for entry into school or childcare in Michigan. Parents will also be able to check their child’s immunization records. Free dental screenings and vision screenings, required for kindergarten, will also be available.

Families can also explore free resources and interactive booths from community organizations. Topics will cover health, education, physical activity, and more. The
University of Michigan’s Pop-up Safety Town will be on site to provide injury prevention education. Pop-up Safety Town teaches kids pedestrian and medication safety, along with dog bite prevention.

Families can stop by Ready, Set, School! for fun activities, including Touch-A-Truck. Kids will be able to learn about and explore the inside of a variety of vehicles, from police cars to ambulances. Touch-A-Truck will be available for the entire Ready, Set, School! event. A sensory-friendly hour will take place from 9-10 a.m. Free kids’ books, yard games, and other activities will also bring family fun. The Salvation Army’s Summer Lunch Bunch program will be on site to provide free snacks
to attendees.

The event is free, and no registration is necessary. For more information, visit milivcounty.gov/health/personal-health/ready-set-school or call (517) 546-9850.
