LETTER: We are now an autocracy

The question has been posed, at what point do we become an autocracy?

I’m no expert, but after a judge, a mayor, and a U.S. Congresswoman have been arrested, and now after seeing U.S. Sen. Alex Padilla being forced to the ground and handcuffed for simply doing his job, I would say: WE ARE THERE.

Sen. Padilla is a member of the Senate Committee on the Judiciary, and in that role he oversees the work of the Department of Justice. In addition, Padilla is a ranking member of the Senate Judiciary Committee’s Subcommittee on Immigration, Citizenship, and Border Safety. He is responsible for conducting oversight of federal agencies with citizenship, asylum, refugee, and immigration enforcement responsibilities. I believe that includes Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem, who was doing an interview in a federal building where the senator just happened to be.

They had no right to do to him what they did. And mealy mouthed Mike Johnson’s attitude that Sen. Padilla caused this scene and wants him to be censored is, quite simply, B.S. If anyone should be censored it is mealy mouthed Mike Johnson for failure to fulfill his Constitutional duties both as a Congressman and Speaker of the House. Under his lack of leadership, his has been the most unproductive House of Representatives in this nation’s history. How many bills have they passed since he took over?
