President Trump’s demand to eliminate vote-by-mail is a direct attack on Americans’ freedom to vote. Vote-by-mail is secure, accurate, and trusted by millions — from military families and older adults to rural and tribal communities, voters of color, and people with disabilities. It has strengthened democracy by expanding participation.
The Constitution is clear: states run elections, and no president has the authority to take that away. Trump’s lies about voting machines are just as dangerous. Our voting systems already meet strict standards for security and transparency, with paper ballots and audits in place. Replacing them with hand counts would slow results, create chaos, and undermine confidence.
We cannot allow these falsehoods to erode trust in our elections. I urge readers to contact their members of Congress and demand they defend vote-by-mail and modern, secure voting systems. Our democracy is strongest when every eligible voter — whether at the polls or by mail — can make their voice heard.
