After a lifetime of contributing to our communities, our senior population deserves all the support we can provide them. Navigating inflation and other economic issues as a senior is already challenging enough, and living alone in later years can be even more difficult. Many seniors do not feel comfortable driving to the pharmacy or grocery store anymore, and some have mobility issues or difficulty preparing meals themselves. Because of this, they rely on delivery services to bring them the items they need to stay healthy and maintain their independence.
Unfortunately, a new tax on delivery services would be detrimental to groups who really need them, such as our state’s senior citizens. Most are living on limited retirement funds and carefully set budgets. They can least afford a price increase on the services that help them get essentials like meals, groceries, or medications delivered right to their door.
I urge Michigan legislators to show they care about our state’s senior citizens and reject any new taxes or fees on these vital delivery services. Seniors have earned our support, not new financial burdens.
