Livingston County residents deserve transparency regarding how federal agencies use our resources. Currently, the Trump administration’s immigration tactics are reflecting a “disturbing pattern of inhumane disregard” for both law and life.
The fatal shooting of Renee Nicole Good by ICE agents in Minneapolis, followed by shootings in Portland, highlights a dangerous lack of oversight. Furthermore, 2025 was the deadliest year in ICE detention in decades. Despite these failures, Congress is considering funding 50,000 new detention beds—infrastructure designed for incarceration, not justice.
I am urging our representatives to pause FY2026 DHS appropriations negotiations. We must stop the expansion of a system that subjects people to medical neglect and violence. It is time for Congress to rein in the reckless tactics of Secretary of Homeland Security Kristi Noem and ICE Director Todd Lyons. Our community expects leadership that prioritizes human rights and rigorous accountability.
