LETTER: Demand a government that works for all

Sharing is caring!

“Drain the swamp” resonates differently for the average American than for political officeholders. When I hear this phrase, I envision a government free from corruption and inefficiency, a place where transparency and accountability reign.

In contrast, elected officials often view it as a critique of the very systems that govern bureaucracy — those mechanisms that constrain their political ambitions. Too frequently, this becomes an assault on the core values of public service and civil service, prioritizing political immunity over accountability.

It’s time to communicate a clearer vision to our elected leaders at all levels: We seek genuine reform, real change, and fairness—not just an opportunity for a prevailing party to consolidate power. Let’s demand a government that works for all, not just the favored few.
