Congress is supposed to be passing two bills shortly that are going to affect the way we vote, and the Republicans want to increase the difficulty for us when we vote, where we vote, and how we vote.
Save act/H.R.8281: This bill would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters with overly restrictive voter ID requirements, disproportionately affecting marginalized communities, including senior citizens, college students, people of color, and the disabled.
ACE Act/H.R.4563: This legislation creates new barriers to voter registration and participation, rolling back efforts to ensure fair and accessible elections while increasing the influence of billionaires and corporations in our democracy.
You can go to Congress.gov to learn more about these bills. After you do that, call your members of Congress, both your senators and member of Congress. Tell them why you do not support these bills. Follow that up with an email, and send them one every day until the vote takes place.
My husband and I are both retired, and I am disabled. I don’t want anything that will make it harder for husband or me to vote. I have children and grandchildren who go away to school, or work during the day with family obligations at night. They should continue to enjoy early voting, mail voting and should be able to vote when they are away at school, WITHOUT difficulty.
Voting should be easy in this country. We are not a third world nation, yet.
