LETTER: Congress must stop protecting the powerful and release the Epstein files

Jeffrey Epstein

Now that Congress has returned from its August recess, I am dismayed to see what our elected officials are prioritizing. In late July, Speaker Mike Johnson abruptly adjourned the House, effectively blocking a vote to release the Jeffrey Epstein files, despite a bipartisan committee having already approved the subpoenas.

Today, instead of addressing this critical issue of transparency and accountability, the leadership is focused on rebranding a tax plan that slashes food aid and Medicaid to fund more tax cuts for the ultra-rich. They are even proposing to cut another $2.8 billion from the IRS to ensure their wealthy donors are shielded from audits.

This is a slap in the face to everyday Americans.

Congress halts a vote that could expose corruption among the powerful elite, only to return and push legislation that further benefits that same class of people.

The public has a right to know who was involved in Epstein’s network. The silence from Congress on this issue is deafening, and their actions speak volumes about whose interests they truly serve. It’s time to demand they stop protecting the powerful and release the files now.
