The so-called “Phase 2” of the Gaza ceasefire has proven to be a dangerous illusion. Since the truce began in October, over 500 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli fire. Just this Saturday, at least 30 more lives were lost in strikes on apartment buildings and camps. This is not peace; it is a genocide continuing under the cover of diplomacy.
Even more shocking is the calculated warfare being waged against the United Nations. On Jan. 20, Israeli forces used bulldozers to storm and demolish the UNRWA headquarters in East Jerusalem. This is an unprecedented violation of international law. Here in Michigan, we must demand better from our leaders. I urge Sen. Gary Peters and Sen. Elissa Slotkin, and U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett to support the UNRWA Funding Emergency Restoration Act of 2025.
Israel’s flagrant breach of the ceasefire shows that the only path to a lasting peace is for our government to end all weapons shipments to Israel immediately. We must restore aid and stop fueling this catastrophe with American tax dollars.
