Thousands of people will descend on downtown Howell on Saturday, Oct. 18, for the annual Legend of Sleepy Howell — including the Headless Horseman 5K and Monster Mile races— the biggest outdoor trick-or-treating event in Livingston County.

The Legend of Sleepy Howell is set for 3-5 p.m. It provides a fun and safe experience with free trick or treating on Clinton, Court, and Church streets. There will also be giant outdoor recreation games, spooky Halloween displays and fall-themed activities, including a touch a truck event, and plenty of candy.

• The Monster Mile starts at 5:30 p.m. Cost to participate is $20.

• The Headless Horseman has a rolling start of any time between 6 p.m. and 6:10 p.m., allowing for participants to be spaced out and the start and finish lines. Walkers, strollers, assistive devices, and dogs on 6-foot leashes are welcome. Cost to participate is $35.
