The Working Families Party (WFP) is endorsing William Lawrence for US Congress in Michigan’s 7th District.
Lawrence, founder of MI Rent is Too Damn High and the Mid Michigan Tenant Resource Center, is running in the Democratic primary to unseat U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett.
The Working Families Party is a national organization fighting for the multiracial working class building a nation that cares for all. Lawrence is in the first wave of Congressional candidates the organization has endorsed this cycle.
“I’ve been a proud dues-paying member of the Working Families Party for years, and now I’m honored to earn the party’s endorsement,” said Lawrence. “Across the nation, WFP candidates are winning elections by fighting for the many, not the billionaire few. Now more than ever, we need elected officials who put people and the planet over corporate profits.”
The Working Families Party is building a bench of working-class elected officials by endorsing candidates challenging incumbents it says aren’t serving their constituents.
“Since his time as a housing and climate justice organizer, Will understands the challenges that working people are facing in Mid Michigan and across our country and is committed to making sure that we have a government that works for the many, not just the wealthy and well-connected,” said Branden Snyder, Michigan state director of the Working Families Party. “WFP is standing behind Will to make sure that we send candidates who can fight for our communities to Washington, D.C.”
