An 18-year-old woman is dead after the 2011 Ford Focus in which she was a passenger failed to stop at the intersection of North Latson Road and Highland Road/M-59 in Oceola Township at approximately 12:45 a.m. Sunday, April 2.
The preliminary investigation showed that the Ford Focus was traveling south on North Latson Road when it failed to stop at the intersection and was struck by a 2007 Cadillac Escalade heading east on East Highland Road.
The driver of the Ford Focus, an 18-year-old Stockbridge woman, suffered non-life threatening injuries and was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS, while the passenger in the car was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the Cadillac Escalade, a 20-year-old Burton man, sustained possible injuries and was transported by Livingston County EMS to Genesis Hospital in Grand Blanc.
Both occupants of the Ford Focus were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash, while the drive of the Cadillac Escalade was not. Alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Livingston County EMS, Howell Area Fire Department, and the Michigan State Police.
