It’s time to clean out your closets for a cause, as LACASA is seeking new and/or gently-loved dresses, gowns, and suits that will provide local high school students with affordable, sustainable options for formal events this year.
The formal wear is for use in Cinderella’s Closet, a beloved program that ensures every student can attend homecoming and other formal events feeling confident and special. At these semi-annual pop-up boutiques, held prior to homecoming and prom seasons, students can select a new or gently used dress or suit for just $25, with all proceeds going to support LACASA’s teen education and prevention programs. These vital programs empower young people throughout Livingston County with the tools and knowledge to build healthy relationships and prevent interpersonal violence.
Donation Details:
- What: New or gently-used formal dresses and suits that high school students would enjoy.
- Where: Donations can be dropped off at LACASA Collection, located at 1475 N. Burkhart Rd. in Howell (Kensington Valley Outlets), during their regular donation hours: Tuesday – Sunday, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Every dress donated is a win for our community and our planet, and we rely entirely on these donations to stock our racks,” said Sara Lewis, LACASA’s director of social change advocacy. “Think about as not just clearing out your closet; you’re giving a beautiful garment a second chance to shine and giving a local student the priceless gift of confidence and dignity for their special night.”
Cinderella’s Closet event, where students can purchase the donated formal wear, will take place Sept. 11-14 and Sept. 18-31 at Kensington Valley Outlets in the space next to Hot Topic. Visitwww.lacasacenter.org for details.
Volunteers are also needed to make Cinderella’s Closet a success. Email volunteering@lacasacenter.org for more information.
