Jon King, fresh from his “forced departure” from WHMI-93.5, will be gracing the airwaves once again this week.

King is scheduled to be a guest on Michigan Radio’s popular “Stateside” program on Tuesday; however, breaking news could change when the interview airs.
The interview will focus on the circumstances surrounding King’s “forced departure” from WHMI.
That departure was solely the decision of Krol Communications, the Owoso-based company that bought WHMI in 2015, King said, and it came after a local advertiser threatened to pull his ads because he didn’t like the station’s news coverage.

In addition to being half of the “Mike and Jon in the Morning” team with his longtime co-host, Mike Marino, King also served as WHMI’s news director.
King had posted on Facebook that his “forced departure” would come on Feb. 25. But in a show of solidarity, and after nearly two decades of entertaining Livingston County in the morning, Marino and King announced on air Friday that it was their final broadcast.
“Stateside,” hosted by April Baer, airs 3 p.m. and 9 p.m. Monday through Friday. You can subscribe to Stateside on Apple Podcasts or Google Podcasts. Check out the “Stateside” page for more information, and to listen to the interview after it takes place.
