A 45-year-old Deerfield Township woman is in stable condition at Genesys Hospital in Grand Blanc after K-9 units found her in a cornfield suffering from extensive injuries and exposure an estimated two days after she crashed her 2022 Ford Bronco into a tree in the 7300 block of Mack Road.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the woman’s family reported the accident at about 6:50 p.m. Monday, Aug. 7, and said that they were unable to locate the woman. Family members also reported that their last contact with the woman was on Saturday, Aug. 5. Deputies determined that the accident likely happened on Sunday, Aug. 6, and they found evidence at the scene that she had been injured.

Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, Livingston County EMS, Hamburg Township Police Department, and the Hartland and Green Oak fire departments searched approximately 200 acres with dogs, drones and all-terrain vehicles, but they were unable to locate the woman.

On Tuesday, Aug. 8, the search continued with detectives from the Sheriff’s Office and Michigan State Police Aviation Unit, along with MSP K-9s. At approximately 9:20 p.m., the K-9 units located the woman in a cornfield about 3/4-mile west of the accident scene. The woman had extensive injuries from the crash as well as exposure to the elements. She was transported by Livingston County EMS to Genesys Hospital, where she was initially admitted in critical condition; she is now reported to be in stable condition.

The woman was alone in the vehicle and not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident; drugs and alcohol are being investigated as factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Detective Bureau of the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
