Howell resident Deb Drick will be singing the National Anthem on Thursday for former President Donald Trump’s campaign visit to Michigan.
“I got the official call from the Michigan Trump team Tuesday morning, telling me to clear my calendar for Thursday,” Drick said.
Trump is scheduled to appear in Potterville, a town of around 2,600 residents, located about 13 miles southwest of Lansing in Eaton County.
Drick said she sang the anthem at a local event last spring and was approached afterward by Trump officials, praising her rendition; she gave them her contact information.
“I received a confidential alert a few weeks ago that I was on the short list for the upcoming visit,” Drick said. “I tried not to get too excited because you never know how things will play out, but it was pretty tough.”
In addition to her work with the Livingston County GOP, Drick is also well known in the community as an anthem singer. She has performed for many local swearing-in ceremonies, and she sang the anthem for several years for the Michigan State Senate Memorial Day Tribute. She is also a regular anthem singer at veteran events throughout the county.
This isn’t the first time Drick has been invited to sing for a member of the Trump family. She performed the anthem for Ivanka Trump’s Michigan rally in 2020.
