Howell toddler dies after gaining access to unsecured firearm in home

A 2-year-old Howell child is dead after gaining access to an unsecured gun, according to a release from the Howell Police Department.

Officers were dispatched shortly before 6 p.m. Sunday on a report of an accidental shooting at a home on Oak Squire Lane in the Rolling Oaks subdivision, located near the intersection of M-59 and Byron Road.

The toddler was transported to C.S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor, and was later pronounced dead.
