After decades of watching their brothers play through Howell Junior Football and the Howell High School football program, sisters Bailey, Ashley, and Grace Curtin decided to launch “Football for Girls,” a weekly podcast aimed at both helping fellow female fans understand the fundamentals of the game, and becoming more conversant in the week-to-week changes around the game.
“I’ve been watching my brothers play football for over 20 years,” said Bailey Curtin, the oldest of the family’s 10 children, “Our dad served as president of the local junior football league and several of our brothers have played through junior and high school football. What started out as me being dragged to Saturday junior football games grew to enthusiastic cheering and wanting to understand the basics of the game.
“Now, my younger sisters keep up with college football players in discussing strategy, play calls, and trades. It’s become a central part of our family culture and we wanted to share understanding and love of the game with other women who didn’t grow up loving the game but want a greater understanding.”
The podcast covers weekly recaps of both NCAA and NFL football games, predictions and what to watch for in the coming week, a phrase of the week to help promote literacy of football lingo, as well as game day snack recipes and uniform rankings.
“Football for Girls” can be found on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and most other podcast apps.
