A 36-year-old Howell man was thrown from his motorcycle after failing to negotiate a curve on Norton Road near Cedar Lake Road in Marion Township early Thursday. Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to the accident at about 6:46 a.m. The man was flown by Survival Flight to the University of Michigan Medical Center where he is in critical condition.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, after failing to negotiate the curve, the motorcycle left the road, throwing the driver, who was not wearing his helmet at the time of the crash.

Speed appears to be the contributing factor in the crash. The roadway remained closed for three hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Howell Area Fire Department and Livingston County EMS.

This incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
