In a display of determination and teamwork, Howell Junior Elite fourth grade football emerged victorious at the Indianapolis Crossroads football tournament this weekend. While multiple Howell teams from second through eighth grade participated in the tournament, the fourth-grade squad stood alone in bringing home championship honors in the national division.

Under the guidance of coaches Tom Curtin, Fred Keena, Ryan Kendall, Scott King, Andy Satkowiak, and Jason Van Devon, 21 young athletes from five different Howell area teams united as one. In just three weeks, these players mastered new plays, forged bonds with new teammates, and adapted to different coaching styles. Each player brought their unique talents to various positions, with some learning new roles on the fly, creating what proved to be a winning combination.

The Indianapolis Crossroads tournament, now in its 10th year, draws teams from 12 Midwest states. Howell’s journey to the championship began with a convincing 13-2 victory over Milford, Ohio, in Saturday afternoon’s bracket play. Following a brief rest period, the team continued its winning streak with a 14-0 shutout against Gahanna, Ohio.

The championship game pitched Howell against their toughest opponent yet, the undefeated Clarksville, Ind., team. Despite facing larger-sized opponents, Howell’s discipline, speed, and determination proved decisive in their 17-14 victory.

The road to Indianapolis was paved with community support, as the team engaged in various fundraising activities including coin wars, football squares, and a Biggby Coffee fundraiser to help cover travel expenses. The team expresses gratitude to all who contributed through coins, cans, coffee, and other means to make this unforgettable experience possible.

The victory marks a significant achievement for Howell Junior Elite Football, demonstrating that with dedication, teamwork, discipline, family and community support, great achievements are possible.

The championship team roster includes: Wyatt Vella, Caleb Curtin, Gene Hogan, Braylon Weber, Lincoln Kendall, Matthew King, Owen Andrews, Jaxon Halbert, Abraham Sawman, Rylind Posluszny, Sam Satkowiak, Issac Bruney, Holden Keena, Evan Walker, Jaiden Banta, Sylas Dustman, Miles Weber, Gage Rogers, Beckett Boucher, Dominic Cloetens, and Elias Simmons.
