After seeing their 10-game winning streak end in Tuesday’s 48-36 loss at Hartland, the Howell girls basketball team looks to get back on track tonight.
Novi could be just the tonic for the Highlanders, who are 11-4 overall, 10-1 in the KLAA West.
But it could also be a trap. Novi (4-11, 3-8) could trip the Highlanders if Howell is caught looking past the Wildcats to a tough final week of the KLAA regular season next week.
The game will be broadcast on The Livingston Post, starting at around 6:50 p.m. Click here for the link.
Howell finishes the season next week at Northville on Tuesday and at home against Brighton next Friday.
The Highlanders can clinch at least a tie for second place with a win tonight, not to mention staying even with Hartland atop the standings. The Eagles are playing at Brighton.
Novi might be the last below-.500 team the Highlanders will face this season. As of today, winless Holly is, at 0-13, the only team below .500 in Division 1’s District 8, which includes Hartland, Howell, Fenton and Linden.
Howell also is still in the running for a No. 2 seed, which means the Highlanders wouldn’t face top-seed Hartland until the district final. The district will be played at Howell.
So, as coachers will alway remind you, there is plenty at stake tonight in what would otherwise appear to be a mismatch, plenty for coaches to worry about and plenty to inspire another standout effort on their home floor.
The uncertainty is why they play the games.
