Howell, Brighton gymnasts place in top 10 at prestigious Canton Invitational

The Brighton and Howell high school gymnastics teams both finished in the top 10 at the prestigious Canton Invitational on Feb. 3, which featured 19 teams from around the state.

Farmington United won the meet with a score of 141.375, followed by Northville (140.475) and Livonia Blue (140.4). Howell placed sixth (137.825), while Brighton finished in eighth (137.1).

Several gymnasts from Howell and Brighton made it to the medal stand, led by Taylor Gillespie of Howell, who finished first in the vault in Division 2. The placers included:

VAULT
Division 1 – Emma Courtney (Brighton) – 10th
Division 2 – Taylor Gillespie (Howell) – 1st

BARS
Division 1 – Sarah Mossett (Brighton)- 4th
Division 2 – Taylor Gillespie (Howell) – 4th
Sarah Faruzzi (Brighton) – Tied for 10th
BEAM
Division 2 – Maddie Vernon (Brighton) – Tied for 2nd
Sarah Faruzzi (Brighton) – Tied for 2nd
Alyssa Weber (Howell) – Tied for 4th
FLOOR
Division 1 – Sarah Mossett – Tied for 9th
Division 2 – Maddie Vernon (Brighton) – 3rd
Taylor Gillespie (Howell) – tied for 8th
ALL-AROUND
Division 1 – Sarah Mossett – 6th
Division 2 – Taylor Gillespie (Howell)- tied for 2nd
Maddie Vernon (Brighton) – Tied for 6th
