After splitting their first two games on the road. the Howell boys basketball team has  challenge before it int tonight’s home opener against Okemos.

“They’re big,” Howell coach Nick Simon says. “They’re big and they’re very, very fundamentally sound. They don’t do a whole lot of stuff that’s fancy, but they do what they do really, really well.”

The game will be broadcast on The Livingston Post. Click here for a link.

The  Chieftains (3-0) have won their last two games by 30-plus points.

‘They’re definitely going to have the size advantage, no doubt about that,” Simon said. ‘We’re going to have to crash the boards on both ends of the floor and get positioning early. They kind of suffocate you with fundamentals, and eventually you get out of sorts and then they take advantage.”

For Howell, the situation isn’t a new challenge, and as in most years, simon is counting on a deep bench.

“We’re going to be rotating a lot of different guys and play at 100 miles per hour,” Simon said.

The Highlanders are coming off a 35-32 loss at Walled Lake Northern on Tuesday.

‘Our defense improved a lot on Tuesday, Simon said. “We just couldn’t get the shots to fall. That happens sometimes. Im excited for this test for us. Its our home opener, and we have always played well at home.”
