Howell bicyclist in critical condition after being struck crossing Michigan Avenue

A 65-year-old Howell woman is in critical condition after a crash as she was riding east across the Michigan Avenue cross walk at M-59/Highland Road in Howell at approximately 11:26 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 1. The bicyclist was struck by a 76-year-old Howell man heading north on Michigan Avenue in a 2004 Dodge Ram as he attempted to turn east onto M-59/Highland Road.

The bicyclist was transported by Livingston County EMS to Trinity Health Ann Arbor Hospital, where she is in critical condition. The driver of the Dodge Ram was uninjured.

The bicyclist was wearing her helmet at the time of the accident, and the Dodge Ram driver was wearing his seatbelt.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, alcohol does not appear to be a contributing factor in the crash. The roadway was blocked for about 90 minutes for investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, City of Howell Police Department, Howell Area Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.

The accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
