While he carried Livingston County in both recent general elections, President Donald Trump gained 1.3 points across the community from 2020 to 2024 for a whopping win of 24 points.
You can see the split of the votes — red for Republican and blue for Democrat — in the map above from the Livingston County Clerk. You can see the one solitary island of blue in the sea of red that was Livingston County’s votes in 2024. That island is the City of Brighton.
So, how did Trump do on the local level? How much did the votes shift one way or the other from 2020?
The New York Times released its “Extremely Detailed Map of the 2024 Election” that analyzes votes precinct-by-precinct. The amount of swing is categorized using a more nuanced color scale:
Keep in mind that swings one way or another from 2020-24 don’t necessarily mean the candidate of that party won the vote; this just indicates the margin of swing of votes cast.
Here are some of the more interesting things on the map:
• The reddest swing from 2020 to 2024 came in the precincts on the west side of Oceola Township. That swing was a whopping 11 points more Republican.
• The bluest swing in Livingston County was the area surrounding Lake Chemung in Genoa Township, with a 7-point shift toward Democrats.
• While Trump carried the City of Howell, the swing of votes appears to be split: on the south side of Grand River Avenue, ballots cast for Republicans were up 4.2 points over 2020, while those on the north side were up 0.2 points for Democrats.
• The area in which Democrats enjoyed any victory in Livingston County was the City of Brighton, which was up 0.3 points for Vice President Kamala Harris.
