The race to replace retiring Democratic U.S. Sen. Debbie Stabenow gained another contender today as actor Hill Harper announced his candidacy.
The actor, 57, known for his roles on “CSI: New York” and “The Good Doctor” announced his run in a video to his son, Pierce, explaining why he’s running and what he believes in.
Harper, who owns a home and a coffee shop in Detroit, is running to the left of centrist U.S. Rep. Elissa Slotkin, the first candidate to announce a run to replace Stabenow. Slotkin has represented Livingston County in Congress since she took office in 2019 after defeating incumbent Republican Mike Bishop.
In addition to Slotkin and Hill, other candidates running in the Democratic primary to replace Stabenow include businessperson Nasser Beydoun; attorney Zack Burns; former state Rep. Leslie Love; and Pamela Pugh, who is currently serving as president of the Michigan State Board of Education.
