Deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office were patrolling eastbound I-96 near M-59 in Howell Township when they attempted to initiate a traffic stop on a 2014 Ford Explorer after determining that it has been stolen out of Melvindale. According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the vehicle failed to pull over, and instead accelerated at a high rate of speed while continuing east on I-96.
The vehicle exited at D-19 and headed north through the City of Howell at a high rate of speed, continuing north onto Oak Grove Road with deputies still in pursuit with in a fully marked patrol vehicle with emergency lights and sirens activated.
The vehicle, failing to slow down and lost control at the sharp curve at Sanford and Faussett roads, left the roadway to the north and hit the house located at the corner.
The driver, a 42-year-old Allen Park resident, and the passenger, a 49-year-old Romulus resident, were taken into custody; prior to being processed, the suspects were transported by Livingston County Ambulance to Saint Joseph Livingston Hospital for treatment of possible injuries sustained in the crash.
The house that was struck was occupied at the time of the crash, but no occupants were injured.
The incident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were assisted on scene by the Michigan State Police, Livingston County Ambulance, and Howell Area Fire.
