At about 8:15 p.m. Sunday, a high-speed chase that began in the City of Howell ended in Cohoctah Township with a 48-year-old Howell man taken into custody.

The chase ended at Oak Grove and Sanford roads in Cohoctah Township.

The chase began in the area of Eager Road and Highland Road (M-59) in Oceola Township when deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office responded to assist the Howell City Police Department with a vehicle pursuit of a suspect in a breaking and entering. Deputies took over the lead and pursued the suspect through Howell and Cohoctah townships, with speeds reaching 70 mph.

As the vehicle turned south on Oak Grove Road near Sanford Road, a PIT maneuver was performed by a deputy. After the maneuver, the suspect’s vehicle rammed a sheriff’s vehicle before being blocked in.

The suspect was taken into custody with the use of a Sheriff’s canine and a taser before being turned over to the Howell Police Department; the suspect was transported to St. Joseph Mercy Hospital for treatment of minor injuries. Charges will be requested through the Livingston County Prosecutors Office by both the Howell Police Department and the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies were assisted by the Howell Police Department and Livingston County Ambulance.
