After 15 years selling Michigan products, Heart of Michigan at 203 W. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell is closing and its owners, Karen and John Wing, are retiring. The store’s last day is Jan. 31, unless its inventory gets cleared out earlier — its final sale begins on Tuesday.
“Our dream was simple: to celebrate Michigan and serve this incredible community,” the Wings wrote in a social media announcement about the store’s closing.
The store celebrated all the Great Lake State has to offer, and put together some great made-in-Michigan gift baskets. In addition to souvenir and home decor items, the store also kept shoppers connected to a wide variety of Michigan food products, from Bettermade potato chips to Sanders items, Jiffy baking mixes, Faygo and Vernors pop, Murdick’s fudge, Sayklly’s peanut brittle and salt water taffy, and authentic U.P. pasties made in-house.

“They say time flies when you’re having fun, and looking back on the last 15 years, we know just how true that is,” the Wings wrote.
Store hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.
