A 45-year-old Fowlerville man, driving at a high rate of speed and passing multiple vehicles as he traveled west on Grand River Avenue in Handy Township, hit an eastbound car head-on east of Cemetery Road on Wednesday, Feb. 5.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, the man, who was driving a 2005 Mercury Mountaineer, was passing in the eastbound lanes of Grand River Avenue when he hit head on a 2017 Subaru Outback, driven by a 45-year-old Fowlerville woman who had an 18-year-old passenger inside. Deputies were dispatched to the crash scene at approximately 3:38 p.m.

All three people were transported to Sparrow Hospital in Lansing by Livingston County EMS. The driver of the Mercury Mountaineer was in serious condition; the driver of the Subaru was in serious but stable condition, and her passenger had minor injuries. All three were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash.

Alcohol and speed appear to be contributing factors in the crash. The roadway was closed for three hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from the Michigan State Police Motor Carrier, Fowlerville Police Department, Fowlerville Fire Department, and Livingston County EMS.
