Sophia Juliver, a senior at Hartland High School, is the winner of this year’s art competition for the 7th Congressional District.

Juliver’s pencil drawing, “Ethereal Veil,” will be displayed in the U.S. Capitol for one year, along other winning entries from across the country.

“Her genuine artistic skills and creativity were on full display with her pencil drawing, ‘Ethereal Veil,’ which stood out among a collection of impressive artwork submitted by students across Michigan’s 7th Congressional District,” said U.S. Rep. Tom Barrett.

On May 2, Barrett hosted a reception for students, parents and teachers involved in this year’s competition. Those attending received an update on Barrett’s work in Congress, and enjoyed the opportunity to view all the artwork submitted.

“Thank you to the many art teachers and parents who encouraged 37 talented students from 12 different high schools to participate,” Barrett said. “You made this competition a huge success that I look forward to hosting again next year.”
