Nate Statly

Nate Statly, the 2020 Hartland High School grad injured in the Feb. 13 mass shooting, remains in critical condition in Sparrow Hospital in Lansing.

Statly, who suffered severe head trauma, is “fighting daily battles,” said his older brother, Josh Statly, in an update on the GoFundMe account that’s been set up to support Nate and his family. Josh Statly said previously that doctors said his brother’s “path to recovery will be a long and difficult one.”

“We are still uncertain of his prognosis, as is common with severe head trauma,” he said.

Nate Statly is currently a junior at MSU, studying environmental biology and zoology; he had just landed his first internship working in the nature preserve on Mackinac Island this summer.

“…Thank you so much for the absolutely incredible amount of love and support you have provided our family,” Josh Statly wrote. “Over the years, we’ve used the expression ‘thoughts and prayers’ many times. Being on the receiving end of it now, we now understand how meaningful those words and actions actually are. We have especially appreciated the comments folks have left about Nate! All of your kind messages have lifted our spirits.”

He said his brother has been “strong through it all.”

“We are extremely appreciative of the medical team caring for Nate, especially the nurses that watch over him all day,” he said. “We also wanted to thank Michigan State University for all of their assistance for our family.

“Please continue to hold him in your thoughts and prayers. We feel them, and it means the world to us.”
