Alex Hansen is running for re-election to the South Lyon City Council.

“While I have been on City Council we have made some tough decisions to tackle the deteriorating infrastructure.” Hansen said in a release. “Going forward, we need to build upon the projects we have already started and show the citizens of South Lyon results that will impact our lives and our property values.”
As a banker with over 18 years of experience, Hansen understands the importance of a balanced budget and fiscal responsibility. He recognizes that success can only be achieved when all stakeholders are heard and their concerns are addressed in a manner that generates success for everyone, not just those with the most assets.
Hansen’s extensive experience in the banking industry has helped him to understand ways in which the city can be fiscally responsible while still providing the necessary services to the residents.
“The past several years have showcased how proper financial decisions can have a positive impact on our city,” he said. “I have worked tirelessly with my fellow council members improving our infrastructure, our city crosswalks, and other city services. The progress we have made in the last couple of years highlights the need for elected officials who are willing to work together to improve our City.”
Hansen is an assistant vice president and small business banker for Comerica Bank. His duties involve providing several banking centers in the area with small business client assistance and providing his clients with exceptional financial relationship service. Additionally, Hansen is an ambassador with the Novi and Farmington Chambers of Commerce.
In addition to serving on the South Lyon City Council since 2021, Hansen also serves as a board member and treasurer for the South Lyon Water Guardians (a 501c3 non-profit that organizes the Annual South Lyon Area Creek Clean-up) and as a board member on the Huron River Watershed Council representing South Lyon.
Previously, Hansen was appointed to the South Lyon Zoning Board of Appeals in November 2020, where he served until running for City Council in 2021. He previously served on the Howell Township Zoning Board of Appeals for nearly three years before moving to South Lyon.
While in high school, Hansen earned an Eagle Scout rank from the Boy Scouts of America and participated in 4-H. Hansen obtained a bachelor of fine arts degree from Northern Michigan University in 2007, and graduated with a master’s degree in administration with a concentration in finance from Davenport University in 2018.
His wife, Marie Arao-Hansen is a teacher in the South Lyon Schools district. They have been married for almost 12 years and have three children.
