Sharing is caring!

Brighton Cooperative Preschool(BCP) founded in 1967 has helped thousands of Livingston county families prepare their children for kindergarten. This small non- profit is now at risk of closure after a rough recovery from pandemic shut downs.

Housed in different buildings throughout its 50+ year tenure in the community, BCP is dedicated to providing high quality preschool at a low cost, with parent involvement not only encouraged but required.

Brighton Cooperative Preschool is a true preschool program, with classes for 3- and 4-year-olds. The children attend school from 9 a.m. to noon on different days of the week. This approach is a gentle way for families to ease into the routine and structure of school.

Brighton Cooperative is a great program for families wanting to encourage their children to experience school and socialize without the large class sizes and requirements of a daycare. To make things even more seamless for families, BCP has adopted the BAS calendar, so school is open and closed the same days as other children in the community.

The current BCP board of directors is having to make some tough choices; the history and spirit of the co-op is strong, but enrollments have been down since families changed the way they run their young children’s lives since the pandemic.

Brighton Cooperative Preschool is parent-run with the support of our program director and licensed teacher. Our hired teacher works with every child and has kindergarten readiness in mind. Each week our teacher and volunteer parent assistants follow a fun and engaging curriculum to help students learn and have fun at school.

We are reaching out to the community that we have always sought to support.

It is our hope that BCP go on to help more Livingston county families prepare for kindergarten, but we need help. If you are a BCP alumni, have a young child in this community, or have sent your own children to Brighton Cooperative Preschool, please consider donating to our cause. Help us keep BCP open for future generations of Livingston county children.

Brighton Cooperative Preschool Board Members are available to interview, and to discuss the school. The BCP board believes this school has a place in the community and seeks to ensure its future is bright.

Signed, Brighton Cooperative Preschool Board of Directors
