Livingston County is deeply saddened by the passing of Vice Chairman Dennis Dolan. Commissioner Dolan served 17 continuous years on the Livingston County Board of Commissioners, where he represented District No. 8 and served his constituents and residents of the county with honor. It goes without saying that those he served alongside of and for he considered his extended family.
A standard-bearer of integrity and civility, Commission Dolan served the county in numerous leadership roles including Chair of Finance, Finance Chair of the Drain Board, Vice Chairman of the Public Safety and Infrastructure and Development Committee, Retiree Health Care Board, Tax Allocation and more. Commissioner Dolan offered an ethical dimension essential in making organizations strong while focusing on solutions. Drawing from his professional experience and methodical thought process, Commissioner Dolan served as Chair of the Construction Committee for numerous years, overseeing many county building improvement and construction projects from concept to fruition. Commissioner Dolan’s legacy has been built into the County’s buildings and will serve as a reminder of his integrity and wisdom.
Over the past 17 years, Commissioner Dolan developed a culture of trust, engagement, and nurture for those he served. His years of service on the OLHSA (Oakland Livingston Human Service Agency) Board, Southeast Michigan Consortium Board, Human Services Collaborative Body, and Livingston County Meals On Wheels were a true testimonial to his compassion for others and his desire to assist others in fulfilling their potential. He was a master at bringing out the best performance in others as evidenced in the community’s annual Walk for Warmth.
Modesty is a hallmark of quiet leaders, which was clearly evident of Dennis Dolan. As an exemplary public servant, Commissioner Dolan shared meaningful engagement and 17 years of dedication to his constituents, making Livingston County a better place to reside and call home. His devotion and thoughtful leadership to our County will be cherished, as well as thoroughly missed. Our thoughts and prayers are with Dennis’ family through this difficult time.
