Two Howell women are hospitalized following an accident Friday afternoon at E. Highland (M-59) and Argentine roads in Oceola Township, which closed the road for three hours.
According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched to the two-vehicle crash site at approximately 2:39 p.m. A 17-year-old Howell woman driving a 2017 Jeep Grand Cherokee was heading south on Argentine Road failed to yield while turning left at the intersection. The Jeep was struck by a 2013 Lincoln MKX, driven by a 53-year-old Howell woman who was traveling north on Argentine Road.
The driver of the Jeep — who was wearing her seat belt — was transported to C.S. Mott’s Children’s Hospital in Ann Arbor. The driver of the Lincoln did not appear to be belted at the time of the crash and she suffered serious life-threatening injuries; fire personnel extricated her from the Lincoln, and she was then transported to St. Joseph Ann Arbor by Livingston County EMS.
Speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash, which remains under investigation by the Livingston County Traffic Safety Unit.
Livingston County Deputies were assisted on scene by Howell Area Fire Department, Livingston County EMS, and Livingston County Dispatch.
