The Fowlerville Community Schools Board of Education on Tuesday approved contracts for Zack Douglass as the district’s new recreation director, and Jillian Martin as the manager of the Alverson Performing Arts Center.
Douglass is a graduate of Fowlerville High School who went on to earn a bachelor’s degree in kinesiology/exercise science from Michigan State University, with specializations in health promotion, athletic administration, coaching and leadership fitness. He’s been a football positions coach at Fowlerville High School, and he’s coached youth baseball and basketball in Fowlerville. He’s also served as an official with the Michigan High School Athletic Association.
In his new role, Douglass will spearhead recreational activities through a cooperative agreement between Fowleerville Community Schools, the Village of Fowlerville, and the townships of Iosco, Cohoctah, Conway and Handy. This position is designed to enrich the community their a range of youth recreational activities (grades 1-8) under the administrative oversight of Fowlerville Community Schools. He will also work with the Community Recreation Advisory Board to ensure a community-focused approach to youth recreation.
Douglass said his entire life has been heavily influenced by his athletic and extracurricular experiences.
“Understanding the impact that youth athletics and recreation activities can have on individuals, I am very excited to have this opportunity,” Douglass said. “It is a sincere honor to be in a position where I am afforded the opportunity to help drive programs that will have such a significant influence on youth in our community.”
Martin earned her undergraduate degree in theatre with a performance emphasis from the
University of Michigan – Flint, and a master’s of fine arts degree in applied drama and theatre for the young from Eastern Michigan University. She has served as facilitator/director for the Encore Youth Theatre in Hartland for summer camps and the musical theatre program. She’s also been a graduate teaching assistant at Eastern Michigan University.
In her new role, Martin will provide leadership and assume responsibility for the direction, coordination and implementation of all activities and events at the Alverson Center for Performing Arts, junior high school auditorium and auxiliary facilities. She will be responsible for planning and scheduling events/performances and identifying the maintenance needs of the facility. She will also supervise and train the student technical theater club members and support staff in using the Alverson Center’s equipment and tools.
