A 66-year-old Fowlerville man is in critical condition at the University of Michigan Medical Center in Ann Arbor after he was extricated from his 2005 Toyota Camry as a result of a multi-vehicle crash at Grand River Avenue and Owosso Road in Howell Township.

According to a release from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, at approximately 2:27 p.m., Thursday, July 20, a 2011 Mercedes Benz SUV traveling south on Owosso Road failed to yield at the intersection of Grand River Avenue and was struck by the Camry, which was traveling west on Grand River Avenue. The Camry was forced into the eastbound lane of Grand River Avenue, where it was struck by a 2020 Chevrolet Silverado heading east.

The Mercedes was driven by a 20-year-old Westland man who was seat-belted and not injured.

The Fowlerville man, who was extricated from the Camry by fire personnel, was transported to the University of Michigan Medical Center by Livingston County EMS in critical condition with life-threatening injuries.

The Chevrolet Silverago was driven by a 58-year-old Fowlerville woman, and her passenger was an 81-year-old Fowlerville woman. Both women were seat-belted at the time of the crash. The passenger was transported to St. Joseph Livingston Hospital in Howell by Livingston County EMS as a precautionary measure, and she was treated for minor abrasions.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, speed and alcohol do not appear to be contributing factors in the crash. The road remained closed for approximately four hours for the investigation and clean up.

Deputies were assisted at the scene by personnel from Michigan State Police Motor Carrier, Michigan State Conservation Officer, Fowlerville Police Department, Livingston County EMS and Howell Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation by the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Safety Bureau.
