A 57-year-old Fowlerville man is dead after reportedly arguing with his roommate early Friday morning. The two men lived in the basement of a home in the 6000 block of Sargent Road in Handy Township.

According to a release from the Michigan State Police, troopers from the Brighton Post were dispatched at about 1 a.m. Friday, Nov. 15, after another resident of the Sargent Road home called 911 to report that he found the victim on the basement floor after hearing the two men arguing. The suspect, a 35-year-old Howell man, had fled the home.

Troopers, using a K-9 and assisted by deputies from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office, searched for the suspect after the victim was pronounced deceased.

Another call to 911 came in at about 2:25 a.m. from a resident in the 5700 block of Millett Road, saying that someone was pounding on their door. Deputies went to the home, determined the person at the door was the suspect, and took him into custody.

The case remains under investigation, and the Michigan State Police are not releasing the cause of death, or saying what if any weapons were used. Authorities say there is no threat to the public, and they will update the situation as information becomes available.

Anyone with information pertaining to the investigation can contact the MSP Brighton Post at (810) 227-1051.

The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office and Livingston County EMS assisted the Michigan State Police.
