A Michigan celebrity with strong Livingston County ties has endorsed former New York City Mayor Mike Bloomberg for president.

Erik Smith, a longtime Brighton Township resident who worked at Detroit’s Channel 7 from 1962 to 2010, announced on his Facebook page that he’s endorsing the New York City billionaire.

Smith frequently rails against President Donald Trump on his Facebook page, so it’s no surprise he’s endorsing a Democrat in 2020.

Smith moved to Brighton Township in the early 1980s, and became actively involved in the community. In the early 1990s, he served as the chairman of the Brighton Township Planning Commission.

Bloomberg, a former Republican who switched to the Democratic Party a few years ago, has racked up some national celebrity endorsements, as well, including Ted Danson, Michael Douglas and Judge Judy Sheindlin.
