Lady Rebecca’s final day in business is Saturday.

The popular, eclectic boutique at 120 W. Grand River Ave. in downtown Howell is closing after the death of owner Jeannine MacDonald in February.

The store will be open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday. Remaining merchandise in the store will be up to 50 percent off, cash/check and carry. Some items will have a “consideration” price tag on them.

It’s hard to imagine downtown Howell without Lady Rebecca’s, just as difficult as it has been to adjust to life in the close-knit community without Jeannine, whose presence and spirit lent it an air of creativity, love and spunk.

The last sales day is sure to be a busy one, full of bargain-seekers and the friends and admirers of Jeannine, who I know will bid her a final, heartfelt farewell when the doors close for the last time at 4 p.m.
