Cassandra Schmidt, an ER nurse at Trinity St. Joseph Mercy Livingston Hospital, died suddenly on Monday at the age of 42. Prior to becoming a nurse, Schmidt had been a paramedic with Livingston County EMS for 10 years.
“She spent her life and career caring for others within the community she called home, blessing all who came to know her with a caring heart and generous spirit,” said John O’Malley, president of Trinity Health Livingston and Trinity Health Medical Center – Brighton. “Our prayers are with Cassandra’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.”
The hospital’s leadership team is in the process of arranging for grief support to assist Schmidt’s friends and colleagues in the facility.
Schmidt is being remembered as a “legend” by Livingston County EMS, in a Facebook post about her death.
“She will always be remembered as a very caring and compassionate person who always worked hard to make others feel better. She was a great friend to many, and a wonderful clinician to her patients,” the post read. “She was driven and passionate, and she will be greatly missed by so many.”
Visitation for Schmidt is set for 1-3 p.m. and 5-7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Watkins Brothers McDonald Chapel at 315 N. Michigan Ave. in Howell. A uniform walk-through for anyone wishing to participate is set for 6 p.m., and it will be followed by a short service.
Schmidt is survived by her husband, Chris Schmidt; her sons, Jackson Schmidt and Tristen Duncan, and a daughter, Ciel Cadle; as well as her parents, inlaws and other relatives, and many friends. You can read her obituary by clicking here.

“Cassandra was an amazing wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend to many. She was taken from us way too soon,” said her friend Rae-Anna Lindenmuth, who organized the fundraiser. “Any help to get Chris and Jackson in their time of transition would be helpful.”
